The Benefits of Regular Exercise

A fair amount has been written about the benefits of a regular exercise program and how it helps people lose weight and/or maintain their weight.  Regular exercise can help you develop a fit, lean, strong body and will also help you to maintain that body as you age.  In addition, there are also mental health benefits to be derived from exercise that often go unnoticed.  Working out can relieve stress and anxiety, and provide a general feeling of well being for most people. 

If you exercise outside of your home, either outdoors or in a gym or fitness centre, it can provide opportunities for socialization.  In addition, it can help to ward off depression and improve your self confidence.  Studies have show that if an individual is suffering from depression one of the best things they can do is to start exercising, just get moving and your mood will likely start to lift.  Also, those who exercise regularly generally sleep better and are able to deal with issues in their lives much more effectively than those who do not exercise regularly.
