The Problem that is Swine Flu
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently announced swine flu on a Phase 6 alert. This means that there are now community outbreaks happening around the globe. This should not be confused as the disease becoming more severe, instead understood as becoming more and more widespread community-wise. It is important that you and your family take the necessary precautions to ensure you and your child’s health is protected as best as possible.
With over 70 countries already affected by swine flu, combating the disease has become a personal effort for everyone concerned. Keeping healthy has become global concern that governments around the world are preparing for mitigating measures to contain the disease. With everyone on their toes preparing, spreading information about the disease, everything boils down to etiquette and personal hygiene.
Hand washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting and spreading the disease. Avoiding crowded places will also help prevent the disease in a community. Just like regular flu, swine flu is spread person-to-person. Simple gestures of covering your mouth when coughing and sneezing will help in a big way to combat the spread of the virus. Used tissue paper that you used for expectorating should be thrown in a bin. It is also practical to avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth before touching anyone or anything, germs are transferred this way.
