So What About Acupuncture?
So once you get your head around becoming a human pin cushion - and further still get your head around to the possibility that it might actually be good for you - you might get around to thinking why?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that has been used in China for thousands of years. Most people will have heard the phrases ‘yin’ and ‘yang’ - even if you’re not completely sure what they refer to.
Yin and Yang have emerged from ancient Chinese beliefs that all our life experiences have opposites - the yin and the yang are the names given to these opposite forces. The theory goes that when your forces are balanced you will be in good health, if the forces fall out of balance then you may not be so well. Acupuncture is an art for restoring the balance of your yin and yang.
Although modern western medicine has developed a more scientific explanation for the effectiveness of acupuncture the end product is more or less the same.
So What Are The Benefits?
The uses for acupuncture are many and varied. It can be used to help with a wide range of scientific problems in both humans and animals - may vets offer acupuncture services.
Many people use acupuncture for pain relief - including headaches, rheumatic pains and digestive disorders. Others may be looking for solutions to problems such as asthma, high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, or even menstrual problems.
The treatment also gives a feeling of overall well-being and relaxation - afterall the balancing of your yin and yang brings good health and well being. For this reason it is a viable treatment and preventative measure for stress and any of its many related health problems.
A word of warning
For all the apparent benefits of acupuncture it is not a cure-all miracle - despite what some may claim. It is certainly NOT appropriate for anyone who is at risk from infection (i.e. severe diabetics or people taking steroids), nor for those who have bleeding disorders such as haemophilia.
Like any alternative medicine acupuncture has its place and shouldn’t be discarded as mere voodoo. It has solid scientific foundations and is a viable option in many a health treatment/maintenance plan. Just be sure to do your research and take professional advice before indulging.
